Engineered for versatility, featuring 100+ accessories and a DIY SUV conversion kit.
A bold new player has entered the electric vehicle market. Slate, an American EV startup, has unveiled its first model: the Slate Truck, a radically simplified, fully electric pickup designed with affordability, personalization, and everyday utility in mind.
Starting at under $20,000 USD after incentives, the Slate Truck makes EV ownership more accessible than ever. The base model is equipped with a 52.7-kWh battery, offering an estimated 150 miles of range, rear-wheel drive, and a 1,400-lb payload capacity. For those needing more distance, an optional 84.3-kWh battery extends the range to 240 miles.
While the design embraces minimalism — featuring elements like crank windows and steel wheels — Slate doesn’t compromise on safety. The truck comes standard with essential tech, including Forward Collision Warning and up to eight airbags.
Where Slate truly differentiates itself is in its modular design. Owners can customize their vehicle with over 100 accessories or opt for a DIY SUV conversion kit that transforms the truck into a five-seat SUV, complete with a rear seat, roll cage, and additional airbags. The Slate Truck is also designed to be easily wrapped and re-wrapped, allowing drivers to refresh their vehicle’s look whenever they like.
In a move away from traditional in-car tech, Slate skips built-in infotainment systems altogether. Instead, the truck offers a universal phone mount and USB ports, letting drivers “bring their own tech” for a fully personalized digital experience.
Slate’s production will be based in the United States, with a direct-to-consumer sales model and nationwide service network. Reservations are now open for just $50 at Slate’s official website.
The future of flexible, affordable EVs might just be starting here — and Slate is leading the charge.
